The most boring country / place you've ever been.

I spent a few days up around Seahouses and surrounding towns some year's ago,a very depressed area ,a lot of the folks seemed to be wearing grey and dull pink apparently the colour choice of the depressed I remember sitting in cafes, people were eating chips and gravy and smoking fags.

Blyth further up the road again isn't much better either

Blyth at least has a claim to fame. Blyth Staithes, which no longer exist, were in the Michael Caine film, Get Carter.

Yes, that car park was a bit of a monster. As you say, now gone, along with many of the the landmarks from the film.

At least the club is still there, well the frontage anyway. Now Klub Ikon, Newbridge St, Newcastle.

Coincidentally, I was taliking to someone in my local who lived around the corner from Brumby's (Brian Mosley/Alf Roberts) house in the film when it was being filmed. It's in Durham, and where the party scene was filmed. Recently been demolished to make way for 12 new houses.

Classic film. One of the best.

The club was originally the home of John Dobson a local architect then it became the oxford gallerys, (it still has "the oxford" engraved above the entrance to this day)
It had became Tiffanys nite club when I used to go in the 80's

The above article is interesting
Coburg Street that is mentioned is about 5 mins walk from my house, I hadn't realised that it was one of the films locations too

You're in luck. There is a Youtube film showing footage of Coburg St in the film and as it is now. The guy who made the film has done lots for various locations in Newcastle and The NE.

I used to pick up timber at Blumson timber yard in Barking Creek in east London, I thought it was like going to a wasteland in hell.

If thats the place on the A13 on the right as your heading for Dartford Tunnel and as you cross railway lines as you enter, our paths may have crossed, mid 80's...

Does anybody actually live anywhere interesting?

I did a long time ago, a fine city on the boarder of two counties where God takes her vacation when in town, the place where Drake played with his balls while waiting for the Spanish Armada, where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for distant shores, where you can still buy a decent pasty that contains no horse meat but a word of warning, Cream Teas can be addictive and the cafe's lie about them not being fattening and laden with calories...

A few years ago we went out to Australia and stopped on the way in Singapore and thought it's quite nice. On the way back we stopped in Hong Kong and it became quite clear how dull Singapore was in comparission, clean , tidy but sterile of atmosphere . Hong Kong is a ****hole but so much more vibrant and exciting.
In Australia practically everyone we spoke to told us to give Canberra a miss unless we have some strange sort of passion for dull grey lifeless concrete government buildings.

I was at school in Singapore from 66-69, it definately wasn't dull, sterile or tidy back then, you didn't happen to bump into my childhood sweatheart, Leha Binte Abdul Rahman did you??

Probably get shot down in flames, but I rarely find anywhere or anything interesting, location wise, in The UK. Most places seem to have been sterilised and made to look like anywhere else. Most of the character have gone, and anything than smacks of non-conformity and character has been removed. This story says it all -

My part of Bristol had 8 pubs in a small area. Twenty or thirty years ago, these pubs were busy with all sorts of people. All the pubs had their own atmosphere and local charcters from 20 year olds up to late 70s of all walks of life. Friday and Saturaday night, there would be a huge queue out of the chipshop door after closing.

Now it's virtually dead. One pubs closed, another seems to be a permanent disco/karaoke bar to attract anybody they can and most of the others are just hanging on. No one seems interested and probably don't have the money. Probably all at home on the sofa watching X Factor drinking Aldi lager. Friday night in the locals is now quieter than a Monday night used to be.

The only places I find that still have some life and are interesting are abroad. Travelled central Europe a lot and The US, and was always sad to leave. Back to grey old England. :(
