According to NOMIS, 15% of all adults in the UK are on benefits.

That is over 1/5th of everything the government gets in tax, goes directly to people's pockets in benefits....this is not including free prescriptions, council tax relief, free dental that they also get. This is actual cash given to them.

...and people wonder why we are financially f**ked.

I think the true figure is well above 15%; more like 25-30%.

Yeah but they spend it all on fags, booze and bookies so it soon goes back to the government.

it's not all like "shameless" you know..

I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't gamble..
my money ( which we get taxed on BTW.. ) goes to my internet so I can search for jobs, my phone bill so I can phone round looking for and applying for jobs, my car tax, insurance, petrol etc so I can drive to interviews and jobsearch meetings etc and the rest on food / bills..
my one luxury is basic sky so I can fill the "out of hours" time with something other than staring at a blank wall.

...there are people that work that can't afford a car or sky though....Col, i know you are seeking work, fair play to you, but even you have to admit they could cut your benefits and you'd still survive ok until you found that job..

dont forget people get working tax credits with an income off around £20.000 a year and thats classified as "benefits"

Get an allotment. Keeps you fitter than a Gym membership and cheaper, plus free veg. Ive got two. If i could get a cheap tractor id look into a smallholding,

They also reckon that 1/3 of all 'disability' benefit claimers are working cash in hand too. This was according to a sample of a few thousand.

Working tax credits, what's that all about then, double handling the money. Twice the admin.
Why not just tax those eligible people less in the first place?

Theres a council estate here where they have Police record numbers on the front doors instead of house numbers. If anyone pays the rent, the Police go round to find out where they got the money from. They built a block of flats and the builders installed a pretorched Escort in the car park to save time.

not shure how much value you can put on a survey that askes questions about breaking the law

I am greatful for the benefit system, were it not for the benefit system, right now, I'd be screwed to pay my bills and also council tax, 6 more months and the benefits system will have paid off two 3rds of my santander loan.

But then thinking about it, if the benefits system was not there, I would refuse to pay taxes.

I don't actually get to see any of my benefit all £256 a month of it, as it all goes to pay my loan and bills.

How I survive for food and stuff is a miracle, from Allah, and I am living proof he exists.
