This site.....

I

well it has deteriorated drastically in the last few months... Most of the big names have gone....no funnies from Tim, no arguments from Joe....Dex goes dramatically...then comes back!!

But the whole thing seems like it's aged.. from a raucous youth club with debates, rows, rucks and all, to an old peoples' home.....playing draughts (the last word post) constantly with the nurse...

I have to say that the rest of the site.....is awesome for answers....but this sh,,,i,,,te.... well i am more than disappointed

it says there are 109 users online....... so where the Fk are they?...is this a voyeur site?

it's a sad indictment that i'm answering my own posts.... in the old days, all hell would be let loose... but these days...

Unless of course i am totally ignored? still not quite worked that out!

Ebbs and flows - that's the nature of any "institution". It's tru - we could do with a bit more new blood on here. I soemtimes wonder if we're a bit too clique and know each other too well, thus deterring too many from jumping in.

each to his own. bud. i'm only a user on this site, i can't control the quality or content, but as has been said many times by many others, if you don't like it, you don't have to use it.
personally i find this forum varied and usually entertaining. some nights better than others but that's life. last night was a cracker. why, i don't know but the banter and speed of the humour had me in fits of laughter.
there don't seem to be many regular users, maybe the content isn't varied enough, i don't know.
i'm a new face, and other new faces come in and no doubt older ones drop out. maybe that's how these things work.

Hit the nail on the head ? I think. Speaking for myself I see the same characters trotting out the same arguments and can't be arzed getting involved most of the time.

of late the major issues appear to be dominated by the input of just one poster, and for me it's too much like preaching.

To coin your own argument, there's nothing forcing you to get involved.

There's not much new to discuss - whether it's politics, retribution or religion. We need some new arguments to wade into, preferably with some more new blood.

i've seen the debates, dex and they're not what i personally want. i like the mental challenge of playing with word games and generally being lighthearted. that's why you don't see me contributing to the big issue debates

Not just the major issues (obviously each to their own on the definition).......But the preaching part of your comment is spot on........

For months we have had anti-British/pro-muslim rants, even if the subject was completly unrelated.

I agree with sooey..........people cant be ars*d anymore.

got to agree, i said it in a another thread. its more like the outraged daily mail readers club and their lapdogs slapping each other on the back. i think its a sad inditment that the ones who help least on the forum and come on mainly to whinge and moan, get thanked the most for the bilge they post in the general discussion forum.

Maybee its a seasonal thing, as i spend less time on the computer and more time out and about when the weather is nice.
spent all of yesterday doing my other "Job" working up the canal, as we had the official opening of the next lock yesterday. i was busy lockkeeping / controlling the water levels in my section and was out all day from 6.45am until 8pm.

Quite right - myself included    Since I've come back, I think I've posted twice on plumbing and spent the rest of the time trolling on here. This can be remedied.

With regard to the "thanking" bit, I wonder if it would be possible for this button to be removed on the gen discussion forum. Maybe we could ask admin.

Solar powered canal boat. Now there's an idea - especially for warmer climates.

Canals have always interested me - ever since I did a primary school project when I was a kid. Hence why I'd love to be able to get water-borne (canoe/little skiff and wildcamp).

You'd know the history of canals far better than me no doubt, but every day I drive past the mine openings which lead onto the bridgewater. Had meal in the John Gilbert pub as well as Worsley Old Hall - I think these are connected to the origins of canals ;)
