Thomas Cook

Its not right but it is understandable, the hotels wont get a penny from liquidation.

Tunisia has not got alot going for it at the moment, I can't see how this will encourage anybody to want to holiday there or any other tour operates want to deal with the country. Very short sighted.

If I lived somewhere that didn't have a lot going for it, I would leave.

I’ve just this minute watched DE1458 (EC-MVH) Thomas Cook plane arrive in Tenerife South from Stuttgart, I thought they were all either grounded or going to their Home Depots?

Maybe some are commissioned by other airlines? Or now in the hands of the aviation authority? I suppose you can't just leave the planes laying about all over the place, so might as well use them to bring people home.

I heard the Jeremy Vine show today and some people were saying that when the Thomas Cook planes were landing in the U.K. they were being impounded because now they are assets.

Stiving,
You are correct that "The United Kingdom's Civil Aviation Authority announced on 23 September 2019 that it had impounded all of Thomas Cook's airplanes."

But the plane you saw could be a plane that has been leased (rented) from another company, and painted in TC colours.
Hence it will not be TC capital equipment, and so not be impounded.
And the actual owner may now be renting it to the UK Government.

This is all assumption by me, but wet or dry leasing is very common:

And, it seems that most of the TC planes were Leased from other companies.
So they are actually being impounded by their actual owners, to take them back from TC.
(Although some are being impounded by teh airports for TC not paying for runway costs).

I’ve just watched another one taking off, DE1479 going to Frankfurt. And there’s another TC on the tarmac, it’s going to Düsseldorf, so there are still a lot of them flying. All of the ones that I have seen are going to Germany.
I can see them from the balcony.
