We have been having alot of trouble with our heating as the pilot light keeps blowing out when it reaches the thermostat temperature. Our landlord sent his friend (corgi reg) enigineer, out quite a few times to have a look. Now he has said that he does not know anything about this model and is trying to obtain a manual about it but he says he is finding it hard to find one. He has cleaned the filter and the insides more times than I have hoovered the floor, and it still blows out every time (15-20mins). We have looked on this new website and have seen that it may require a new gas value as there could be a slight gas leak and a new thermocouplet. We have young children and are worried about the mention of the slight gas leak.
Thankyou for taking time to read this post.
Kind regards,
Ricki, Taara & 3 kids

is this a warm air unit, if so they have a ASD(atmospheric sencing device) in the draught diverter if open flued which interrupts the thermocouple and turns pilot off, in event of flue blockage or over heating.

Hi,
I am not even sure my landlords friend is corgi gas registared, but I am watching rouge traders tonight bbc1 at 9pm to find out what a fake and a real corgi gas card looks like. By the way I'm still freezing me bits off as the landlord is ignoring my pleads for heating and the gas corgi engineer is still looking for a manual on this particular heating system. :(

Hi,
The engineer came out to us again, I asked to see his corgi card and he said oh jesus and ran out the door I did go out to his van and get the number off the side and checked, he is corgi registared, but I can not understand why he run away. He then rang me the next day to say he was coming to fix the unit finally this morning so I arranged for a member from enviromental health to sit in on his visit as they was allready involved in quite a few issues with the property. When he turned up he took half an hour proving he was corgi registared to the lady from enviromental health fitted a new thermocuplet and then said he needed to phone a friend. After a 10 minute phone call he re-entered and said the unit is not safe to use he then cut the gas inlet without turning the gas off, and shouted at me to turn the gas off. I told him I did not know how to (as I do not). The whole front room was smelling of gas. Then after he capped it off he turned the gas off, which I think is abit back to front? The lady from enviromental health was present when this accured did seem bothered too, and told the gas engineer to stop talking and cap it off, concentrate on what you are doing. The engineer has been working on our heating system for over 16 months now and just keep telling us we would have to keep re-lighting the pilot light every 15-20 minutes which now he saying it has a faulty heat exchanger and should not be used. So we have been using this appliance which has not been safe to use. What do you think we should do now?
Thankyou for your help!!!

Hi,
It's a shame that you get the few bad plumbers, mechanics and builders that give the good ones a bad name, Thankyou for your help, Most appreciated ;)

i would not use him again. i work for british gas, and i dont think you can go wrong with our service. it may cost more but at least you know your getting experts who can keep your appliance working and safe.

Hi,
Unfortunatley because I private rent, its not down to me. The landlord kept sending his mate round to keep the costs down as he has lots of other work to do the property. I had to get enviromental health involved as he thought it was ok to leave us without heating for 129 days, they got him to fix it in the end just in time for christmas, (thursday just gone) Hopefully it stays working now. I am moving soon as the landlord is a joke! Then I can pick decent people to fix my new place and not have to wait that long, I would be choosing Bristish Gas if I need any help with my gas. Thankyou for all your advise.
Have a great christmas!!!
Thanks again,
Taara :)

Hi,
No, I asked for it as the bloke done the gas checks just after fixing the boiler but the engineer said that it is not valid till the landlord signs it. That was last week.
Taara ;)

i would ask for your rent back for that time as your contract with th l includes privision of rent.if you havent got a valid landlords certificate use this as leverage as he is breaking the law and potentially pt your and your families lives at risk.

Thankyou for telling me that. Do you now what I should do next, who I should get in contact with to tell them as I have never had a copy of the gas certificate all the time I have been living here for the last 18 months now. :D

Hi,
Sorry to bother you again, I have never had an electrical certificate either, and have had problems with the consumer box. Where one of the earth wires touched live where the earth wire was not sleeved. The landlord sent an electricain friend round who just bunched the wires up into one fuse for the emersion water tank heater. Do you know if I should have an electrical certificate on site too?
Kind regards,
Taara :)

yes. i think.

your ll is a bit dodgy i think. time to blackmail some free rent i think.
