My daughter has asked me to tile her kitchen which I am happy and able to do. However, behind the hob there is a splashback which goes up to extractor height and between the top cabinets. All pretty normal. Issue is the tiles are 7.5mm thick and the splashback is 4mm thick so the tiles would sit proud of the splashback.
If I tried to remove the splashback to fit a backer board I expect the splashback will break?
Any options please?

Is the splashback glass? Replace the splashback? Or use a neat right angled stainless steel tile trim?
Black glass I believe. She is hoping not to have to replace the splashback. Stainless steel trim could work.
She wants to use tiles with a bevelled edge (metro tiles?) so there will be alternating full tile with bevelled edge and a cut tile (thicker) as it goes up.

Whewn i did metros i cut the bevel off the full tile so they all sat level. so you have a half tile sitting about a 4/5 tile if that makes sense. All depends how you can space everything though

Thanks. That's an idea to look into although I don't think she is keen on the stainless steel trim idea but I think that and cutting the bevel off could be the answer. I'll see her at the weekend and have a discussion.

You can get shiny black versions of the stainless trim which may work. Would give it a cleaner edge. Once you've got adhesive on they are going to be 5mm proud
