regarding the tile lip , you either lift the boards an pack so a low fall , or if boards are prob , a piece of wood shaved an chamfered too tile floor screwed down an carpet down .. then the difference isnt there
Don't worry, Moz is cryptic at the best of times. He was refering to the tiles being higher than your carpet. He meant that you could taper a piece of timber so it slopes down and away from the edge of the tiles in an attempt to pack up the carpet. Then when you refit the carpet the levels should be closer matched.

what about the lip between say, utility room to bathroom.
Utility will have boards, ply & tiles...
bathroom has just boards, thin chipbard & vinyl.
