Oh yes - a long time since.

In the same way that you'd blame Barack Obama for riots at a G20 summit, I got blamed for a bunch of scumbags causing mayhem and threatening to carry on until I was banned, and in a display of staggering cowardice, Victoria Aplin gave in to the bullies.

Perhaps so, Securespark. But I can't think that you've been privy to all manufacturers instuctions?

What do you mean "Disregarding the Regs"? Are you saying that the manufacturer's instructions should always take precedence?

Some manufacturer's instructions are worthy of consideration - others are not, unless you have an understanding of Pidgin Mandarin.......

AFAIR, regardless of the regs regarding ES lampholders, the manufacturer's instructions for these insulated lampholders give instructions stating the line be connected to the centre contact.

I didn't mean to disregard the regs.

But manufacturer's instructions should be taken into account when installing a product.

What happens to the cap on a ES lamp when L & N are reversed???,,, it's not because of the holder, it's because of the lamp!!!!!

pensdown, RF Lighting, BAS, holmslaw, securespark, garymo, TTC, ColJack, Breezer, spark123 JohnD.

You just cant buy talent like that, and unlikely on screwfix anyway.

Some modern ES lampholders are designed so you can't touch the metal cap of the lamp when it is screwed in (and they don't make contact with the cap until you have screwed them in a long way), afaict theese are the lampholders described by the standard mentioned as an exception.

Even so while technically you sometimes don't have to I would certainly advise wiring all ES lampholders center live, you can't go wrong that way.

nice tiling, bit of a shame it's going to get messed up when they have to chase all the walls out to re-do the electrics safely..
