Hi all,

I have an existing brick & block single storey rear extension which I am looking to take down to the DPC level and re-do in a timber frame/timber clad construction using 150 timbers.

Can anyone help me with the detail on fixing a 150 timber sole plate down onto the existing brick/block work above the DPC? The total width of the existing wall is 240mm including a 60mm cavity.

Thanks!

Ordinarily blocks will be 100mm, bricks will be 102, if the cavity is 60mm then how is the wall width 240mm? What are you cladding your timber frame with? How deep are your your timber frame studs?

It's an old extension, the bricks are indeed 102. I Measured the cavity where the dryer exhaust had been cored out so potentially it's a 40mm cavity and 100mm block; certainly the full width is 240.

Cladding will be larch. Timber frame studs 150 x 50.
