Some of you on here have served in the armed services. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the campaigns you have been sent on, and especially in light of the centenary of the Gallipoli debacle, I for one thank you for putting your heads in the line of fire and for being prepared to kill for the sake of my kith and kin's safety.

I was in the armed services a long time ago. I honestly can't claim to have ever put my head in the line of fire, although I was prepared to kill for the sake of your kith and kin's safety, at least in theory, so I accept your thanks at least in part!

Well said Dex.

I always watch and observe the 'minutes' silence in all the remembrance services and I'm truly grateful for anyone who served or currently serves in the forces.

My grandfather served in WW2 and luckily for him, he didn't really see much 'action' but he was still away from his wife and family for god knows how many years which must have been very hard for him.

When I think about the sorry state of this country as it is now, I feel like hanging my head in shame for all the brave men, women and children that lost their lives. It's a real shame that there are too many people around now that don't feel the same.

Yes, they must be rolling in their graves.

I've said it before, but I can't imagine anything other than a small minority of able-bodied men volunteering today as they all did a hundred years ago.

Thank you .......... you're very welcome. All we need now is for all politicians to realise that the Armed Forces are this country's insurance policy. You never know when its needed and sods law says the sh*t will hit the fan the day we stop paying the premiums.

Our wonderful politicians decimated our armed forces in the 1930s (I think) and look what happened then. They never learn.
