Toilet Flush Problem

Here are some pics of the old syphon mechanism.

Anyone know what bit(s) I need off this old one.

Also, if I need that bowl-shaped rubber washer, where would that go & which way round please?
I assume is connects on the bottom black pipe facing same way as in last pic, so bowl shape facing downwards.

It's the black bit sticking out of the bottom of the syphon you need. It should pull out but I would suggest you need a new one.

I got one a while back online. Search for syphon bomb. When you get one push it into the bottom of your new syphon and it should work.

Hi all,

Sorry to raise this thread again, but I have got a syvac aspirator & fitted in the bottom of the syphon.

Put the cistern back on the toilet then lifted it off again.

The bowl washer that comes on the valve has been pushed right up to the top of the little pipe at the end of the aspirator.
Not sure if this is right, but thought I would ask.

The pan now does not fill to the top as before, which is good.
Problem I have now is the flush doesn't seem as strong, & seems shorter than before.

If you look at the new syphon & ball-cock mechanism thing, is there any adjustments I can make to resolve this?

just raise the water level higher and take out that brick you need a lot of water to flush those old syphonic loos

Thanks mate.
The brick was always in there with the last syphon, but maybe these new ones are tailored differently.

I'll raise the water level with the new ball-cock thing & remove the brick & see what happens.

I'll post back in a bit & let you know.

With Nige on that, water level needs to be about where the tide mark is in the cistern, these need the full 2 gallons to flush properly. Also, the dome washer on the pipe from the aspirator needs to be a tight fit over the hole in the pan (under the syphon outlet). Cistern needs to be lowered onto the pan slowly, and dead square, to make sure the washer gets an optimum seal.

You have a Royal Doulton 'double trap syphonic' pan. The purpose of the aspirator is to create a vacuum in the air space in the void between the 2 traps in order to start the syphonic action when the W.C. is flushed. The water action alone is not sufficient to clear the pan as you've probably noticed! If the washer is not sealing correctly you wont get the proper syphonic action and it'll soon block.... (Water level should drop slightly soon as the flush starts if the aspirator is sealing correctly.)

We will have a go at it tomorrow now.

The cistern did sit ever so slightly tilted, but your only talking a couple of mm.

I had to move the cistern around a bit to find the hole for the pipe part of aspirator to fall down, but just let the weight of the cistern take it down.
I didn't go out of my way to lower it slowly, as missus was lining up the overflow pipe, & I was at an awkward angle & it started to feel heavy.
My hands were a bit wet too & didn't want it to slip, so just let it go on it's own weight.

Well, like I say, we'll have another look at it tomorrow & try what you & Nige has suggested.
