Toilet troubles!!

Hi just wondered if someone could help me my mum has a toilet with a two button flush and an internal overflow it wasnt flushing so she took the lid off and found a long thin grey piece of plastic which bends in the middle at bottom of cistern i assume this has fell off from some where but cant see where to attach it!!! any ideas as she has to pull the thingy up by hand!!!

Is it a pipe or is it a solid bit of plastic?

its a grey piece of plastic L shaped one part is long and thin with like grooves and the other end is flatter

i can only imagine it fits on the syphon and square plate which the flush presses but cant see how!!

its one of the push rods that operate the flush valve
its not a syphon

Well mum has found instructions to toilet and its Australian!!!so we can now fix it!!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
but if any 1 knows about landis and gyr c/h timers my dial has stopped turning!!! do i need a new 1??? or couldit b something else, cheers Lou.
