They've got a black man in Robin Hood now. It's just plain stupid. Black people make up just 5% of the population but on TV they are everywhere. Rarely see an advert without one. And if they interview school kids you might just see a white kid in the background. Bet we get a black Dr Who next time.

That there is a ridiculous bias towards black people on TV commonly referred to as 'tokenism'. It does the black community no favours.
If one in twenty of the community is black - then stick with that ratio on TV.
Otherwise you are left with the obvious conclusion that they are only on TV because they are black. Where are the Poles? The Sikhs? I guess you are in agreement with tokenism then?

Of course the BBC bosses are white, public school educated and male - I guess they are trying to fool all of the people all of the time by filling the screens with 'token' black people to deflect their white male numbers.

Whenever the company I work for puts photos of an assortment of people in its publications, if they need 3 people, its always

one white male
one black female/male
one "eastern" female/male.

For example in the staff uniform booklet, theres more black people / asian people in it than white people!

It is daft - I've never come across any ethnic minorities working in our stores, but then I'm from South Yorkshire, where ethnic minorities are only just springing up.

Joe is right, they do get the proportions vastly wrong.

Hang on, there was a black dude in the historically accurate film - Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner, and he invented gunpowder too, and spoke quite good English for an Al Quada member.

So why not have loads of them on the telle you have loads of them in your athletics teams and football teams and without them you would not win the medals and trophies you do.
But then you would as a nation not be able to revel in sporting glories.

I think Joes point is if you keep laying it on thick with the public, they will vote with their feet, which is what newspapers are finding in that their commentators are becoming irrelevant in the internet world.
The BBC are caught up in the PC world with a disenfranchised public in some quarters who are asking why the licence fee is set at the price it is.
