5 miles each way but I started doing job-sharing with my wife so today she's gone in and I'm just about to load the dishwasher!

It's about 4 miles now, but a few years ago I worked in Rome a couple of days each week. 1050 miles each way with an overnight stop in the middle...

... Was worth it just for the coffee and the secretaries ;)

There is an increasing number of people who commute from Yorkshire into London, Mon-Fri, by train. Much easier than driving it, but still pretty mad!

DRIVING 100 miles each way though, that's madness! I hope you're getting mileage rates and travelling time for that!

I seriously could not cope with long commutes. If I get held up on the motorway I get really annoyed thinking about the time that is being wasted and the pollution caused and knowing that the situation is getting worse year by year. Quite often if I have the radio on at about 4 - 5pm I hear about an accident or accidents on the M1 near to my nearest junction and the thought of being a regular commuter on this stretch of road makes me shudder.

I think it will come as no suprise to most that living in cumbria I can be reassured that I am very very very unlikely to die through being murdered.

However, I have a very high chance of being killed on cumbrian roads.

Not wanting to sound miserable there... just stating fact about the roads.

Travel 15 miles to work and 18 miles back to home, now work that one out :)

Why are they so dangerous

not sure what the official reason is.

I guess though that being a rural county, traffic is travelling at high speeds on sometimes hazardous stretches of road... therefore when accidents occur they have a much higher chance of being serious or fatal.
Most accidents in towns and cities tend to be shunts occuring at much slower speeds so causing minor damage and little injury.

I walk 300 yards across a white sandy beach.

I just took this from my studio window at 2:55pm, those are my footprints in the sand to my house, tides on the way in.

That's beautiful, you're very lucky to live there.
