Hi All

Further to my posting below..."Boiler Cycling"

Thanks ChrisR for the info about coil sizes. I reckon mine is probably the more modern type...the connections seem as far a part as the ones in Wickes....also, the boiler heats the water in the cylinder to 55C in about 20 minutes, so it must be quite a good output.

From cold, when on DHW only, the boiler will initially run for 5 minutes. The temp on the flow pipe reaches about 70C and the boiler turns off. It stay off for 2 minutes, comes on for one minute, then off for two minutes...and so on. This is with the pump on 3. On 2, the alight period drops to about 30 seconds.

Maybe I am paranoid, but this cycling seems to often. Maybe the pipes to and from the cylinder have TOO MANY ELBOWS. I was only copying the Wickes design! I have a total of ten elbows and Tee's in the pipework between the boiler and the Cylinder, (Plus two inside the boiler). Presumably all these elbows and Tees reduce the flow, so the heat builds up in the boiler, so it cycles.

Maybe I should have been an engineer after all!

Any comments most welcome

I Haven't got around to balancing the CH yet. It doesn't seem to cycle so badly here.

your system sounds fine its heating a big tank with a little water ,when the tank is hot the boiler should calm down :)

Measure the flow AND return temps. If there really is a flow problem, the difference will be too great (which, by the way, is not good for your boiler).
