I know this is an iffy subject,

My question is. All these torrents on the Internet. What kind of people almost dedicate their lives to uploading these torrents? The time it must take must be massive.

I'll give you an instance. Someone must have bought the entire collection of The Twlight Zone and has transferred them from DVD (including the extras) and made them into small avi files. All 156 episodes ready for download. That is a massive achievement.

Also, other stuff comes out, complete series, all transferred from DVD into small avi files.

As a matter of fact your IP address can be traced while downloading and uploading.
According to German laws, uploading is illegal whereas downloading copyrighted material is not.
The only problem with the torrent system is that you can't avoid seeding / uploading.

Could be someone in somewhere like Seoul that has the fastest connection speed thats uploaded them. Saw on the gadget show once where they were comparing broadband speeds and costs. British person was paying £40+ per month for 20mb speed. The person in Seoul had fibre optic broadband with over 100mb connection speed for less than a fiver a month. (mind you they were on less wages than here , but the price compared very favourably with our extortionate prices here) Even their mobile phone internet connection was fast enough to allow free streaming television to their mobiles.

I've never really used torrents, always been a bit scared of virus's and stuff.
Can you actually download films and all the old programmes on them. I thought they were just for music.

apparently if you want it then its out there,and as for ip address tracing i knew someone who done quite a bit of downloading and his ip went to a field in slovakia or somewhere like that,theres ways and means by all accounts.

Simply by using anonymous proxy servers, you can hide your true IP address.

as long as your av is up to date your ok there are some baddies but only a few in my experience

It's not illegal to download a torrent, only to install it...that's why they are torrents.

I know people that have had their internet switched off for downloading them, but quickly switched back on.

I had a lodger a while back that was an admin/torrent uploader, and from 7am to 4am, he would be on his souped up PC, doing his stuff. At mealtimes, he would scoop his food down, in minutes to return to the computer.

I know err 'someone' who's downloaded every top 100 kids films, most of the decent movies and well over a 200 cd's.plus all the software applications that take his fancy -autocad 2010 adobe photoshop etc

From what I have seen not once has he had a warning or his net cut off..

He is now waiting for TS III when that comes out on DVD as the CAM versions are not worth watching.

Ethically I think torrent users are morally wrong.
I am not a believer in the trotted out cliches about how people , would not have bought the film anyway (Then why want to watch it) or that noone suffers financially (So why is there a legal issue?) Or that the film companies are loaded (so why are they going bust and why did Choices go bust).
Knowing someone is a torrent user lowers my opinion of them.

You can be sure that somewhere someone must be financially gaining from torrents and it will usually be mafia gangs creating fake DVDs to bankroll organised crime.

Where do you find these torrents?

type in any film title and add 'torrent' to the end that will bring up a list

Piratebay and various others have huge lists..
