Can’t help wondering the motive of the girls mother? Reporting the 18 year old to the police for consensual sex with her 17 year old daughter

Yes. They kept their relationship secret so her mum wouldn't find out. Mum finds out about the underage sex and isn't happy about it. Case closed.

Law is law, but I feel sorry for this boy who got jailed because the girl was a few months short of 18.
I wouldn't have felt sorry if he'd been a 50 something year old... or even 30.
I know there must be a line drawn somewhere, but they're virtually of same age ffs.
When I was 15 I had an 18yo girlfriend, she technically committed an offence.

Because he was still over there. I'm sure I read that she complained once the mother and daughter were back in the U.K.
