Hi all,
For weeks I have been trying to solve this but nothing seems to get me to the problem.
I have UFH downstairs (individual Heatmiser thermostats in each room) and radiators upstairs in bedrooms (single thermostat in the landing switching on and off the heating upstairs with TRV's on each radiator). I also have 3 towel rails (2x bathroom, 1x separate toilet) which "should/used to" heat up in two situations: whenever the upstairs heating went on and whenever the hot water went on (i.e. I think whenever the boiler is fired up, the towel rails heat). All of a sudden two of the towel rails stopped heating and I can't figure out why (one of the towel rails still works fine). Steps I have tried:
1. Bleeding - no air at all, however whenever I do bleed water for a while, the inlet pipes heat up, but the heat doesn't get past the valve. Also the outlet pipes remain cold.
2. Checked if valves are stuck - they all move freely (in/out on both towel rails).
3. Checked for balancing - except for the 2 non-working towel rails, switched off all heating from the valves for bedroom radiators and UFH heating off - this did not make the towel rails heat up.
Notes:
1. I changed the boiler from a very old Worcester to a Vaillant during the summer, however the towel rails have worked for months since then (problem only started about a month ago).
2. I have a Grundfos UPM3 Auto on the UFH which has been showing red and amber errors (with clicking) so I know the motor is stuck. I only realised when I started looking to fix this error, because the UFH is still working fine. I tried to fix it, however the screw head is completely threadless so I can't "unstick" the motor and it will likely need replacing completely? The reason I haven't replaced yet is that (as I said) the UFH is working and as it is a cold snap, I don't want to change anything if working - I intend to do it when I can risk an issue from replacement. Also, the pump only turns on when the UFH is on, so I assume this has nothing to do with the towel rails?
I think that's all the information - if there's anything else needed please let me know.
Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated - towels staying wet and bathrooms are freezing cold all the time, so a lot of complaints from kids and wife alike!
Thank you!
