tim west said:Maybe not so much of the eastern europeans being cheap labour more like the british worker charges too much!!
Rubbish of the highest order
Do honestly think everyone in the building trade is raking in hundreds and hundreds of punds a week (in cash) and has a Swiss bank account and a timeshare on Nekker?
The average guy in the industry lives in an average house and drives an average car and is lucky to get two weeks in Magaluf a year.
Have a look at the average take home wage of a clerical worker..a country policeman, a call centre team leader, are they being paid too much as well?
We are all entitled to make a living and just becasue we are considered the dogs of industry doesnt mean we are not entitled to a fair wage.
Sure theres some...a few rip off merchants out there, but the building game is a cmpetitive one and they soon get sussed out.
Heres something to think about...customers, especially those in the decorating trade want a top job done...they will pay up to 80 quid for a gallon of emulsion, but wont even consider paying anyone 80 quid to put it on. When you get asked 'can you do it a bit cheaper?' I used to say
"yeh no problem, ill use cheap paint, it may not cover to well but its cheap"...their eyes used to come out of their sckets! 'oh no I dont want that" they would say
So in other words..they wanted me to earn less and have the same quality!
I wonder what happens when they got to Tescos...do they say to the checkout person....84 pound?...can you do it a bit cheaper?...how much for cash?
I had one customer who would spunk £200+ a time at the casino...but when I gave him a price for a labour only job he said too much too much...and ended up geting a team of cowboys in to wreck the outsdie of his shop...and thenhad the cheek to ask me to put it straight!!!
I think you beleive what you read in to many newspapers mate..
