My daughter got a same day one in Newport earlier this year. If I remember correctly it was on a Saturday as well. The key question when she phoned was whether she held a current passport - valid or expired. I reckon if you are a current holder it shouldn't be a problem. Apart from the drive and the day out to the passport office.

We are going to attempt to contact Peterborough and see if they will accept a renewal without an appointment.
Also going to speak to the Turkish Embassy and see if they can pull a few strings too.

I'm sure you'll be okay as it's urgent, will have to pay a bit more but will be cheaper than re-booking.
Others - just renewed my passport and you can do this 9 months early. I always make a note of the expiry date at the end of the year calendar then transfer the date note again next year until expiry year
