A friend of mine recently purchased some six panel interior hardboard moulded doors....not recommended at all.

The door frame is scant and whitewood and no matter how sharp your plane or power plane cutters are; the timber rips.

After sizing the doors to fit the frames and fit the locks; beyond the 25mm outer frame of whitewood lies; unbelievably; Chipboard; try chiselling that out to clean the mortise for the sash lock. The chipboard used; shatters when initially drilled; at first it seemed like end grain but on investigation; poor quality chipboard; that if relied upon to carry screws would be unsuitable. It does not cost pennies to use better quality material.

The outer skins; are good quality; let down by the rest; the framing and the chipboard in the lock area; even that chipboard is not deep enough for the drilling and mortising of the lock before you see the egg crate packing of the door.

His conclusion; these doors are absolute rubbish; the deal was £15- each door and when the supplier was asked if there was a problem due to the reduced price; there was none; just a good deal on doors.

These door belong on the bonfire heap; beware; they are rubbish and even for £15 they are not worth having; indeed, the customer would have been happy to pay £25 pounds for the door; had it been; as years ago; quality; with Red Deal redwood framing and lock insert of the same material.

Now there are those experts in timber who would argue that white deal is the ideal timber for this job; they do not know what they are talking about; indeed from experience myself; try running white deal by a spindle moulder and you will see that it shatters; rips and splits even with tungsten backed cutters; White Deal is only useful for Crates.

Years ago; I had reps visit me who told us that this; White Deal; was the in and new thing for architraves and skirting; the rep left with a flea in his ear after I told him not to teach his Grandma to suck Eggs; Me.

Rubbish Doors flogged off at a low price that in the end could cost you more financially than had you bought a decent door; why not a decent door; because they were unavailable and assured that these doors were no problem; THEY WERE AND ARE AND ARE ABSOLUTE RUBBISH.

White Deal is Rubbish let no one tell you otherwise.

Just shows how there are people in this world now who have never seen quality or how it should be done; in my works; Heavy machinery; not the mickey mouse kit we see today that is portable; we designed and manufactured bespoke kitchens, sheds, furniture, laminate works, complete shop fitting design manufacture and supply and fit all bespoke work all over England for 35 years, we also built a boat; repaired full size aircraft; manufactured aluminium shop fronts; Circular work with ring and cages on spindle moulders; sign boxes; exotic stair cases; in fact been their done it and to a very high quality and if it was not right; then it did not leave the works; if it did and it was not right; then bonuses suffered and sometimes staff were sacked; it's all about knowing how to do a job; ability, knowledge and for any job; it is just as easy to get it right first time than to get it wrong; and these doors are not of merchantable quality.

The cheap doors have no egg-box interior, completely hollow except for a slim piece on polystyrene top and bottom, bought a dozen doors and returned the lot as all the panels buckled after painting and hanging.
