I wouldn't say that Ukraine are devoid of blame in this war. They kind of half knew what they were getting themselves into during their proto civil war, but naively believed that the west would back them up once they had their chosen leader appointed.
Emboldened by the western promises of ethical righteousness they foolishly tried to erase all cultural totems of Russian influence which were held, by many in the country, as important.
It kicked off as a result.
The 'nice' leaders in the west supplied just enough so that they wouldn't be crushed by Russia, but not enough to win.
Now there's someone holding the reigns who really doesn't care about being perceived as being 'nice', or not and reality has come home to roost.
If I were Trump, I'd be tempted to just throw my arms in the air and tell them I'm out.
