Tung Oil on stained windows

Utterlydiy, we seem to have a similar problem. I dreaded the thought of trying to sand the Sadolin coating back to bare wood. I spoke to Sadolin and they said to use Nitromors.
I have tried it on a small area and it seems to have worked well and without too much effort. On the same small area I have since applied both a base stain and a first coat of oil and all seems ok so I am going to use it to clean down all of the frames.
Care is needed because of the nature of the stuff but put down plenty of protection and ensure you follow the instructions on the tin.
You don’t need to be very aggressive in cleaning down the wood, let the Nitromors do the work. A scraper, old rag and wire wool are all that I used. I also found an an old toothbrush useful in corners and rebates.

I find there is a subtle difference between linseed and tung oils. The tung soaks in leaving the surface of the wood more 'natural' whilst the linseed, at least after the third thin coat, forms more of a varnish like layer on the surface. So I tend to use linseed on the outside of my oak windows and tung on the inside.
