Hi all,

Just in the process of getting the bathroom updated and wanted to up date the lighting as well.

Forgetting the fan for a moment, wanted main bright lighting for everyday use, then another set of lights just over the bath to create mood lighting for OH. The bathroom isnt particularly big, 3mx2m.
Alternatively if any other room, I would just use a dimmer, but I assume this isnt the case for the bathroom?

Can any one advise on the options available and whether this is even acheavable.

TIA, CP

You can get Dimmable pull cords. pull and let go to switch on/off, or pull and hold, then let go when required level of brightness is gained.

As for lights, they should be enclosed (lamps not exposed) for a bathroom that small, When you are buying, make sure the light is suitable for the zone your putting it on, most lights in your average lighting shop/b&q have a picture of a bathroom and it shows what the zones are and what zone the light is suitable for.

Great. I had never heard of them before!

I have got the lights already and they are zone 3, so should be good.

Thanks again

Doodley subject to being outside zones AND the venting being good there's no rule about MUST HAVE sealed lights.

Other than having dimmer outside the bathroom the pull cord dimmer is an alternative. Problem is you will end up with 2 x pull cords.

Might get away with a remote dimmer switch installed outside zones.

Hi BAS

Thanks for the info. I picked that up off some of the other threads I have read. Sparky is just in the process of replacing my CU, following a complete test of all circuits. I have talked through what I want to do and he has advised me re breaking in to circuits, using existing circuits, etc. Once complete I will get him back to test this and some other works I am in the process of doing. Afterall, whats a cheap job yourself if you burn your house down! Some might say 'false ecconomy'...

In a 3x2m bathroom, you wouldn't catch me putting exposed fittings with no IP rating above a bath!

That's purely your choice, it's not a 'rule'. If the venting works and the fittings are outside zones it is not a requirement.
I mention this because your post suggests it IS a requirement, rather than personal choice / the way YOU do things.
