But it's not dangerous (assuming safe isolation is followed).
It's not like guessing which size or type of cable to use and getting it wrong.
It's just a matter of swapping a few switchwires around. If it does not work, no biggie, the wires can go back where they came from, no harm done.

Au contraire - it reinforces the idea that it's OK to fiddle with electrical wiring when you have no idea how it works, and leads people to think that it doesn't matter that they don't know what they are doing because sooner or later they'll get the right connections by guesswork or methodically working through all the possible combinations.
