U.K. is doing well in Europe

I think it's a conspiracy to make Cameron look tough for the anti-EU brigade, trying to win votes from UKIP me thinks .. nothing like this would happen by chance, come on now ..

Yes, more than likely. Probably cooked it up with The EU. Something along the lines of - "Comrades, don't be surprised if I cut up a bit rough with you and make a fuss about paying you the extra £1.7bn. In a bit of a fix at the moment and need to look tough on Europe to scupper Farage and steal his thunder. Then when it all dies down, I'll slip you the manilla envelope under the table. Used twenties alright?"

In this day and age I'm sure it's a possibility. I don't vote anymore, they keep sending me the envelope and it says ''your vote matters', and I think to myself if my vote mattered I wouldn't be allowed to vote. I mean let's be honest parliament doesn't really control the country they pander to the financial oligarchs of the World. It's all string pulling and back room deals and whoever is in power does it.

Blair is worth something close to one billion now by the way, look at all the damage and harm he caused the world. I think the Tories have done much better, I just think the entire system needs reform and we're not going to get that voting for either of the big 3, different arms of the same faction if you ask me, the working man always suffers. Ironically it took the Tories to raise the personal allowance, listening to Milliband and Balls honestly makes me angry

Some past governments and politicians were quite clumsy compared to the slick operations and spin doctors that exist today.

When a Labour aide advised using 9/11 as a 'good day to bury bad news', it makes you realise how clever politicians think they are these days, and how the quality of our leaders has never been lower. As for the Cameron/EU story - anything's possible.

I think the powers that be are getting wind of public discontent. I think the beauty of the technological era isn't that politicians cheat us, they always have, it's just become very difficult for them to hide it.

Politicians are not technical by approach are they? I mean I've always assumed that politics is a career option for those affluent enough and with the right connections whether they are red or blue or orange. Obviously the old saying applies ''It's not what you know it's who you know''. I suppose Farage being a mild exception to that rule at least has experience of running his own business

............. listening to Milliband and Balls honestly makes me angry

Plus one from me, too - the thought of Balls with the cheque book makes me shudder......

A real possibility if people are going to vote Labour thinking it's going to be all handouts like it was before. If Labour are allowed to go down that path again I really fear for the future of this country

No doubt about it. If the fools vote for Labour again, it's a certainty.

There will be short-term gains for some, but before long it will be down the plughole and round the U-bend for all of us.

What politicians never seem to talk about is that thousands of jobs are lost every year to automation, the population continues to rise ever more, so more people less jobs, what's going to happen in the long term ? I just think either there is going to have to be a massive redistribution of wealth, e.g. take huge sums of money from the top 1% to pay for the demand on infrastructure

OR they are going to need to completely revamp the system, for example free food banks, massive increases in minimum wage, abolition of most of the current taxes for the low/middle earners, something radical is going to have to happen... perhaps a move away from the monetary system altogether... Google the zeitgeist movement, very interesting

After a good days bargaining in Europe Camoron and his henchman has halved the £1.7b and it will be paid in two installments with no added interest.

The only problem is the money they have saved we would have got anyway!! He obviously thinks we are complete and utter idiots!!

I was listening to "Question Time" last night, our politicians are living in there own little bubble, they have no idea what it is like in the real world!!

I said he'd do a U-turn, didn't I? I seem to remember him being adamant that he wouldn't pay!

And if anyone thinks he's 'won', I'm sure the next demand from Brussels will be increased to include the other £3/4billion plus interest!

As for QT; predictable. Middlesbrough is another Socialist/Communist area (which must be music to the BBC's ears), so not surprising to see many anti-UKIP sentiments from the audience. Still, if this is reflected in next year's general election who am I to argue? If people in general are happy with the status quo, then let them vote for LibLabCon.

Because if 5 million live in poverty, and 15 million live relatively OK, but with poor prospects or low disposable income.

that's still 40 million who are more than happy with how things are.

Yep,, when they had Nick Griffin on, most of the audience questions came from the ethnic minority and were directed at Nick Griffin. Based on a representative demographic population, out of an audience of 100 people, 87 of them would be white British, leaving just 13 non British people of varying ethnicity. So QT isn't really representative of the UK at all. ;) ;)

That's democracy for you.

As Joe90 used to say, we should have voted for PR when we had the chance (although, personally, I don't remember being given the opportunity).

What a hero Mr Camoron is. He certainly told those nasty Europeans where to stick it and managed to cut the bill by half and we can now pay in instalments. I was totally disillusioned with Moron up until now. Now I will definitely vote for him in the next election because I am totally unaware that it was all a clever stunt ( I said STUNT).

The whole thing is a storm in a teacup anyway.

This is how government budgets work, so many departments and so many people involved. You only need to look at our own finances and see that every year there are revisions on previous spending figures and forecasts.

Europe is either a benefit and a worthwhile institution trading and law making union, or it is a bureaucratic federalist institution that is unnecessary to be part of for a healthy economy, with too much dead weight.

A few billion is a pittance in economic terms.

It is undoubtedly the latter. Of course, it could revert to being a free-trade organisation.
