The real problem with Brexit was popularism. We have a local mayor candidate that is trying the same thing. They pick arguments that fit in with various groups of peoples views and make nice noises for them. That causes these groups to vote for them and they can win as a result. The net effects is that lots of people don't stand a chance of weighing positive to negative effects in a sensible way.
Farage is a good example. Always making comments that are borderline racist. He is one anyway. Then illegal immigrants. There is no reason why Brexit will do anything about that. Free movement within the EU. People that are needed will still come here and there is a lot of people from out of the EU who live and work here anyway. Refugees have international laws associated with them. The west one way or the other is involved in the wars that bring them here. Brexit relevant - no. Just an example of one area.
