You've got to laugh at that Mail Online article, desperate to pack out the "winners", with such feeble mentions as:
LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS: No more waving of EU flags instead of the Union Flag.
I understand that people can wave any flag of their choice, within limits. I wouldn't be surprised to see an increase in the EU flag being waved. If this is a valid reason for the last four years of antagonistic rancour, what has become of us?
NUMBER PLATE MAKERS: At last we can see the back of the deeply infuriating Euro flag on registration plates. And motorists can proudly apply a GB sticker when driving in the EU.
I've never encountered anyone complaining about the number plates. And if the sticking of a GB sticker is considered a win, there's not much hope for prosperity. Again, if this is a valid reason for the last four years of antagonistic rancour, what has become of us?
PASSPORT MAKERS: In production (in Poland) since March, demand for the new blue British passport will soar.
Demand will soar? There's no choice on which colour is available. Again, if this is a valid reason for the last four years of antagonistic rancour, what has become of us?
DEMOCRACY: The people spoke at the 2016 referendum and the 2019 election — and today they’ve finally got what they voted for.
Democracy has not changed. You could argue that although the referendum result has been acted upon, you would be hard pressed to suggest that it is the current will of the people. You could argue that devolution has been improved, (a matter of opinion) but this government seeks to reduce the devolution between UK countries, and that has already been in evidence in NI, Wales and Scotland, by this Conservative and Union party.
Of the people mentioned as winners, we have two sportsmen, four politicians (what else would you expect) one of them (the current PM) sacked many times and a known liar, an ageing actor, and a couple of pin-up girls. 13 mentions in total!
Of the losers, we have 32, many of them (groups of more than one in order to reduce the number of overall mentions) venerable people of politics and commerce.
I can see why some people are so easily swayed. They don't delve any further than the headlines, and they don't question the contents of the article.
