Umbrellas - GRR...

has anyone noticed that the people with brollys ALWAYS walk close to the shop windows where there is normally an overhang where they don't get rained on anyway, but people without brollys have to walk near the gutter & get wet :mad:
are people in asda's with shopping trolleys that take up a whole aisle & move @ 0.00000000mph got the brolly syndrme aswell :LOL:

I wondered why people keep looking at me :LOL: I got it from Gran Canaria but gone missing :rolleyes:

I think you lot have it all covered, but here's my two-penny-worth;
I do knock the offending brolly clear out of my path, (not that you see them too much these days, but the shopping trolley following it's owner, naturally slightly to the side, therefore in line with your foot; that foot deftly placed and lifted under the wheel created a pivot effect which spun the trolley and spewed the contents out on the deck). I believe what we need is a "light-saver" type weapon from the Star Wars stories, held vertically it could clear our path through the brollies pretty swift.
I think the brolly should be taxed according to the area it covers, so there.
I feel sorry for the mums (and dads) with the pushchairs, for in a crowd, there appears to be a gap just ahead then you fall into it and onto the low-level pushchair with a door-stop (babe) therein, or maybe some old dears shopping cos' she can't afford a trolley.

aye done that once

how are they allowed to use them with the spikes on ??? surely someone can design a safer brolly

Well, I'll mention my height too: 6'4''.

I agree with AdamW - I never use an umbrella - a t-shirt is fine.

And pipme - yes, the golfer's brolley. Goodness me. Apart from anything else, the users seem to think it is OK to be connected with golf, like it is a good sport or something.

I'm 6'5'' yah! I know its not a competition I'm just registering my support for this thread, I hate them for the obvious reason tho i did buy one once in singapore at three o'clock in the afternoon that's when the shop keepers get their brolly's out ready for the tourists to come in and buy them as the rain comes lashing down your already soaked and by the time your back out on the street its stopped and you really need wellies or a launch. :LOL:

I bought my first ever brolly a few weeks ago. I never bothered with one before as I have plenty of wet-weather gear and a brolly always seemed to me to be one more thing to carry. Then I noticed that when I am watching my son playing footie on some desolate playing field in the rain the parents with brollys seemed dryer than me in my goretex. I got my wife to buy me a golfing umbrella and kept it in the car until the next rainy match-day. I proudly unfurled my new brolly at the touchline, surprised at how difficult it was in a force 10 gale. By the end of the match the b****y thing had been inside-out more often than not, and the stitching had come adrift on one of the arms. I never even got close enough to anyone for any eye-poking/evasion techniques so no fun there either. :(

I hardly ever go into town and have never had a brolly problem and I'm surprised at all the comments here. Apparently Timpsons do a decent brolly for £15.

ok! hermes who are you? you signed on on the 3rd of this month :cool: but you obviously been here before under a different name? ;)

Always wear sunglasses in the rain - they keep the umbrellas out of your eyes.

I'm surprised that the taller ones find this a problem. I am 5'6" and find that umbrella spikes usually come at me at eye level (maybe I live where the average height is lower?), I always push umbrellas out of the way - much to the annoyance of the carrier but I value my eyesight.

Come fellows ..... Slogger leading you astray ... again.
