Underfloor heating choice/potential

1)The concrete won't affect the pipe
2) Not a builder, but I have never read anything about collapsing screeds
due to UFH and there's a lot of it around now, so would say not.

Self-levelling - wise or not ? I don't know but why ? You have a fairly small area to level and your 6 mm of tile-cement gives you some extra room to manoeuvre , but your choice.

If you are putting tiles on again, don't forget you have to use special tile-cement for UFH: forget what it's called. Is it flexible tile-cement ?

It's not necessary or desirable to run the UFH under cabinets.

Always read about pipe in screed, never in concrete, possible due to the aggregate potentially damaging the pipe due to rough laying? expansion/contraction?

No, I've never heard of any weakness or collapsing if it's done the normal way, 100mm conc/ 70mm screed. But I am omitting screed on top, don't really think it necessary in this case but I'm no expert in screeding.

Yes, flexible adhesive, and no pipe under cabs. Only the main exposed floor area, which means the ufh won't be within 600mm of the long edges of the slab (3m) or 400mm of the short edges (2.4m), so the slab as a whole will be full interrupted thickness around the edges and only 'weakened' by the pipe runs in the centre of slab, which will be unloaded, meshed and an extra inch thick.

I'll take onboard your plan for no self levelling, although I've already bought it.

I know it's seems like I'm thinking aloud here, but I need to get all this straight, and I'm just waiting for someone to jump in and shout "STOP!!!" Because of some glaring error or other.

Before I forget, line everything solid that the slab/screed will butt up against with 10 mm extruded polystyrene ( I bought some tiles as can't get 10 mm sheet ) to allow for thermal expansion.

No real reason not to use concrete except aggregates will make levelling more difficult. I suppose there is a possibility of damage to pipes but reckon pretty small, although if there is something you don't want to take a chance with, I guess it would be UFH !

oldun - did you bring up the Bren carrier because of the recently-passed date or your times in Lympstone ?

Don't know whether you will come back on this thread Mountain Man, but out of curiosity did you live at Lympstone, or are you ex boot neck?
