Underfloor heating ! Dont install it !!!

After quite a few years of designing, specifying and building dozens of flats and houses, electric underfloor heating is not something that particularly grabs me. People keep telling me it works and it's ok, but for some reason I just can't bring myself to put it on my list of things to consider. I've done quite a few wet systems. But electric? just sounds wrong.

@mattysupra

I'm not sure whether I should be saying that you are unwise for buying something you didn't understand or whether you are unwise for buying something without a firm order.

I'm also unsure how far your involvement in the whole business goes, but underlay on top of UFH is not very clever.

We went in off plans. We new underfloor heating was being installed (not by me) so got the correct specs of what underlay/carpet was to be used.

We turned up to be faced by the poor quality install and heating system. Not much i can do about that!

however job was done and finished and we was paid. (we had disclaimers against the system as i know it was wrong but the manufactorier said it was correct)

Thanks for rounding off the thread, Matty,

Did you ever get any feedback fron the customer about how happy they were with the heating ?

yep, we are going in to replace the lot soon. (at there cost)

The heating system overheated and burnt the underlay. Also all the wires are showing through the carpet.

Heating system is being removed and rads being put back in. Also the heating costs was 10x what the rads and normal boiler cost to run.
