Understanding how my boiler operates

Thanks ,only one immersion. Not sure what the second switch does ,maybe nothing, would need to see the wiring connected to it.
Do you know how your set up works now ,or need it explaining ?

Okay thank you… which switch is for immersion, top or bottom sorry? And that means there is no cheaper time of day to run it? I have turned both switches off for now should I have the immersion one on.

Top switch is possibly the electric feed to the system. Bottom switch looks like the immersion heater.

Do you have a room thermostat? I note that Heating and Hot Water are both turned off at the programmer, have you set a heating schedule or do you manually just turn CH and HW on and off?

Don't use the immersion heater for hot water, set a schedule on the programmer and let the boiler heat the hot water tank.

We have a thermostat in the hallway. These photos are from the inventory before we moved in, the heating and hot water are constantly on (red light lit up) on the programmer

That might be to isolate the heating system, boiler supply. I suggest when the OP does know, he should clearly label things...

OP try turning off that upper switch, does it cut boiler to the boiler?

Sorry what did you mean in the last bit? Do you want me to see if heating still works with both those switches off?

Yes ,turn both off. I doubt the other switch is an isolator for heating system ,but it may be.

Well, definitely turn the bottom switch off, then see if your heating system continues to run, then switch the top one off, and try the heating again.

The only way, is to tackle things in a logical way, step by step.

Heating stopped working when top switch was turned off. Made a weird noise too when switched, whilst thermostat was on

Hence the top switch being left on and the bottom off, when we moved in.

Weirdly we have one radiator in the hallway that doesn’t have a knob on the side to dictate the level of heat. And this one has stayed on

Eh ? Did all other rads immediately stop working and go cold when switch turned off ?

The only way to not spend money burning energy is to stop burning it.
This means turning the heat and lighting down or off.

There is no miracle cure.

There are lots of things you can do to invest in reducing future bills but they cost money as well.

Lots of websites are available to give clear advice to reduce energy bills by closing windows, blocking draughts, using timers etc.
As for the switches, do you suspect these are for a immersion heater?

If so, check them out.

OR......you can install heaters that are 21st century that have a range of functions and features that will reduce consumption and maintain a comfort level...OR you can stick with an NVQ bod to tell you what is best LOL
