We have them in the local town. Never give money but will buy a drink or a sandwich/burger.
In Liverpool many years ago, (60's-70's), there was an old woman who used to sit outside a big department store each day, no matter what the weather, She'd been doing it for as long as anyone could remember. I think people called her Katy or Kitty. The story began to circulate that someone had once seen her at the end of the day gather her few belongings together and walk off around the corner to the back of the store. It was then reported she got picked up by a big RR. Eventually the local paper started taking an interest but before they published a full story she was found dead, (no suspicious circumstances). Sometime later the paper did publish a story about her but it was to say she had left a couple of million to charity. No one ever found out who she truly was.
