I'm soon to get started on a job insulating my ground floor. I've pulled a couple of floorboards up and realised the flow and return pipes are 15mm. For the time being, I only plan to insulate one living room and hallway. Once that job's complete, I'll sort out the finished floor, which I don't plan to ever bring up.

Does it make sense to change the 15mm flow & return that I can reach to 22mm, with a view to upgrading the rest at a later date?

CH design standard - 22mm backbone with 15mm branches - so if that can be altered/achieved then that would be the best idea all round.
Thanks, I hadn't considered that I might just be looking at the branches at this point. I need to investigate some more.

Use copper not plastic, especially under floorboards where rodents might damage
Thanks, I had intended on using copper for that reason. Thankfully there's no sign of any rodent activity, but I'll stick to copper nonetheless.

A very experienced plumber told me he has replaced plastic pipes due to rodent damage and avoids using them unless he has to. And Ive heard it said by pros on here too.

Although I appreciate you can’t weave copper through drilled holes in joists very easily

Thanks, due to the insulation works and the space I've got, I plan to go below joist level in any case.
