Upgrading system, is it worthwhile?

I need to replace my ancient open-vented wall gas boiler.

I have a quote to fit a high-end system boiler with weather compensation, replacing the old hot water tank with a mains-fed one, and upgrade the gas and water feed pipes. The price is frightening, but I'm not querying that.

What I want to know is, is it worth doing in my very ordinary little house? I like the "greenness" of this, and I want a good reliable boiler; but perhaps I should just replace like-for-like (which will also cut the work down as the unvented cylinder would have to be relocated). Add to this that I expect to move in a couple of years; would it add value to the sale price, or doesn't it matter what heating system is fitted?

Please, opinions? Thanks.

depends really on how far you want to go

you can do nothing if your current boiler is working

or you can just change the boiler and cylinder to more efficient ones

or you can go the whole hog like what you have said

you pays ya money and ya takes ya choice

:)

If you are seriously intending to move in around 2 years then don't bother with the un-vented cylinder.

Changing the boiler to a new condensing boiler will help sell your property but will not necessarily put the amount of value on your property that it will cost. It will however make your property more 'attractive' compared to 'next doors'. It will also help wit the HIP's if they ever come in properly

Save some of your money, but at the end of the day only you can decide what you want to do ;)

Thanks.

I think this is one of those jobs that just gets worse. I have to replace the boiler. The hot water tank is also old and there isn't room to insulate it properly anyway. So to do the job properly I have to do quite a lot of it ... maybe not the weather compensation.

Still...only I can decide how much to spend, as you say. Appreciate the input though.
