I remember a plumber telling me that the crystalline deposits around urinals were not limescale, but uric acid.

What can be used to clean it away?

Google provides both accurate and crackpot ideas, including bleach, oil, and hydrogen peroxide.

However I do have limescale-removing acid sprays if that's what you mean. Don't often need them as we have softened water.

Yep - acids are the solution.
Small amounts frequently.
As once the crystals get too big they become very hard to remove without damaging other surfaces.
