I Have just taken the front cover of my consumer unit of and wanted some advice on whether something I've seen has been done correctly.

There is a socket below the consumer unit connected to an MCB in the consumer unit. So that the earth wire from the socket reaches the correct point in the consumer unit that it needs to be connected to it has been extended using a connector (earth wire looks to be about two inches short to reach the pin so a connector is used for a second piece of earth wire which is then joined to the pin in the consumer board). Can anyone please advise on whether using a connector in a consumer unit in this way is allowed as part of the part p regs or does it have to be one complete piece with no connection?? Thanks.

Perfectly acceptable.

The only time its not, is when the connector will be made inaccessible.

The joint is easily accessible and protected by the consumer unit front, so I don't see a problem regarding conformity to part p or BS7671.
It's not ideal but better than not having the cpc (earth) connected to the circuit.

A connector is fine in any approved accessible enclosure , it's what they are made for- Personally I like them secured but have seen hundreds that are'nt and have been fine for years and years and years

Edit to add accessible

Mem1: you seem to be overly concerned about the smallest thing in your electrical installation. (re this thread and this one).

Perhaps you should find a competent electrician to carry out an inspection and provide you with a report. Then you'll know if there is anything to worry about and you'll be able to sleep at night.
