Out today, doing some shopping, arrived home, to find the garden gate left ajar - so assumed someone had been, or something delivered, despite clear notices on the gate to ensure it is left closed..

In the letterbox, a small package, and so assumed that was the explanation for the gate being open. Avril (luckily), happened to decide to check her plants, out the front. In the process, she came across another small (tiny) package, just over an inch cube, apparently just tossed amongst the flowers - no reason it could not have been put through the letterbox. Checking the Avri tracking for this item, it said 'put through letter box'. This was a delicate item, susceptible to rain damage, and valued at £30 - it was only luck that it was found before it rained and was ruined, Evri are totally completely useless.

Your lucky, I ordered something from and Ebay seller and selected the nearest collection point, the local shop.

After a week it's still not been delivered, turns out the local shop doesn't accept Evri parcels after all, so the driver took the parcel back.

Now it seems to be MIA!

Cases like this are the sender's headache. Where a parcel is dispatched but does not arrive, it is up to the sender (who contracted that company to deliver it in the first place) to chase it up.

Exactly as it should be. And the sender, as soon as they are informed of the loss, should issue a full refund, including postage, without endless chasing from the recipient.

I've had a different issue this week.

Ebay business seller has sent a completely different item, to that which I ordered.

They want me to pay the return postage, before they (try to) send the correct item. Which I've already paid for.

I'm about to tell them to

- send the correct item (as originally ordered, and paid for)
- include in that parcel, a printed and postage paid return label

I'll then send the other parcel back to them.

Am I correct in offering this solution?

Having sold shed-loads of stuff via eBay, I'd be kicking myself, not to say embarrassed, if I messed up an order.

I believe the eBay money back guarantee covers this situation.

They would need to completely refund the item cost and shipping, and then, if they want the item back, pay for the shipping of the return.

I must say that, for as long as I have been using Hermes/ Evri, I have dealt with the same chap and service has been great.

despite clear notices on the gate to ensure it is left closed..
If the gate being closed is important, you'd be better installing a gate closer/spring on it. Can't rely on members of the public and/or delivery folk to adhere to such requests.

Snap! I’m in the same situation. When I told them it was not what I ordered, they said to send it back. I said for them to send me pre-paid postage label and they said "How do we do that"? Currently waiting for them to send me a replacement. If I don’t get it, I’ll file a claim with eBay.

I find EVRI to be useless lately. I was sent something next day delivery by someone on a Monday, it came on a Friday. I sent something to someone and paid for next day delivery on a Monday and yep, that arrived on a Friday too. I don’t think I’ll use them again.

You are entirely missing the point - The point was that of just dumping a small, water sensitive package, out in the open, when it could easily have been put through the letterbox, then just assuming someone would come home and happen to come across it. There was no indication that anything had been delivered, other than the gate left ajar.

I don't think I entirely missed the point Harry. The gate being shut is evidently quite important to you, which is of course fine, however you can't rely on others to close it, that's my point.
