Using an earth rod to bond gas and water??

its a listed building with concrete floors and ceilings! All newly decorated with the CU at one end of building and gas and water at other end!!

There is a special clause in BS7671: 2008 that says (from memory)

544.1.3

"Newly decorated properties and those with solid flooring and certain listed properties are exempt from certain regulations, including those of main protective bonding conductors. See Appendix 16 for alternative acceptable practices to be employed in these circumstances."

I think you need to stop what you are doing and get your books back out.

First of all, have a read of chapter 13 in BS7671, and see if you can work out where you're going wrong.

This forum is for advice not to slag others off! I am a spark! Not everybody knows everything!

My advice is to take what has been said with a pinch of salt, but also reflect on the comments and consider doing a refresher course on BS7671(the regulations that qualified sparks work to). Being qualified is more than just getting a certificate - you need to keep upto date with the regulations and the requirements.

Just out of interest, what make consumer unit where you going to fit, and what model? What circuits where you going to RCD protect (if any), and do you know what earthing system is present at the site?

Ban, let me beat you to it:

Yes. It's for advice. We've given you the advice. It is that you should in no circumstances connect PEB's to a rod. EVER!

But you keep posting "excuses" why you can't possibly run the PEB's to the MET, and it looks like you're going to ignore our advice.

I appreciate your plea that you are not a dom. spark.

But, as others have said, this point about PEB's is common to wiring systems in all of the disciplines, whether domestic, commercial or industrial and the principle of equipotential bonding is very basic UPK.

thanks sercurespark ill look it up tomorow! Dont habve the regs handy!

I HAVE TO SAY THAT IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY AWARE, THIS IS A WIND-UP. LOOK CAREFULLY AT YOUR COPY OF BS7671:2008. THERE IS NO REG: 544.1.3 AND NO APPENDIX 16.

I do appreciate everyones advice! But my backround is being given drawings with circuit references and installing containment to accomodate! I am perfectly capable of connecting circuits up in a board and testing. But not fully clued up with the main earthing!
