vaillant combi

thanks but i have to turn heating off and its impossible to sleep with it on

I have a problem keeping cool enough at night to be able to sleep! I fully open the window! My heating has not been on ( officially ) for about five months!

It certainly sounds to me as if the auto air vent has not been left open. If you are a little clever you might be able to check it. It should be just loose but NOT tight !

Anyone having one "mate" who is a heating engineer is prety unusual. Having FIVE is decidedly odd!

whilst i agree in principal with tony's comment i have a couple of mates who happen to be heating engineers as well - we help each other !

as for O/P problem vaillant boilers are virtually silent running when installed correctly
definately call the dog (corgi) inspector as this installer clear has no idea what he is doing and should be checked (also they leave us good guys alone then too - bonus!)

building control notices usually take 5 to 6 weeks to come through but you can ask corgi to check notifications for you

WARNING TO ALL
corgi engineers have ID badge with the following information

Company ID No and name x234x6 (4 to 6 digits)
Individual ID No. and name this years numbers start with a 7xxxxxxxx
the individual number changes annually (the first digit only)
Photo

then on the reverse side

a list of areas of competance

central heating cookers
fires etc.

a list of self certifications / competant persons schemes
electrical
plumbing
unvented etc.

thanks for all the comments guys, well i tried leaving on radiator on through the night but had to get up to turn it off, i couldnt listen anymore to the noise of the water coming from the boiler to the radiator, sounds like a kettle just about coming to the boil as is the same with all radiators, also auto airvent is open, anyone got a sledge hammer they can lend me the only time things are quite is when pump goes off

The you are back to getting Vaillant out under warranty, or get your installer to fit another boiler under warranty. (Perhaps not him though  )

There should be no noise like this

update guys, now they want to put in an extra bypass and room thermostat, but im not convinced this will solve the problem, is it normal for the pump to come on for 5 minutes and then go off for 1 minute then back on for 5, off for 1 and on and on, it does this no matter what boiler or rads are set at, the radiators are only noisy when pump is on, hurry up guys they want to do this tomorrow

1 a bypass isn't normally needed on a vaillant but check with them in morning their number is 01634 292300 (i only use the Ecotec's so not sure on yours)

2 a room thermostat should have been fitted at the beginning as it is a requirement of Part L of the building regs

3 i suspect the installer is not corgi registered as he would have known that if he was! (ask him for his registration card or his individual number not his company number it will start with a 7 if he is registered for this year like mine 74xxxxxx1

i would also make a call to your local trading standards office as i'm sure your being mugged by an illegal.

It sounds like a wiring fault to me, perhaps they haven't taken the link out bewteen 3 & 4 on the pcb.

Otherwise I still think a call to Vaillant is needed, these idiots haven't got a clue
