Vaillant engineer left nuts inisde boiler?

Following on from my previous thread above the Vaillant engineer has just been.

He said British Gas were lying and just using scare tactics and the boiler is fine! He said he replaced one part a sealing gasket and everything else is okay.

I dont think he liked me standing there watching him work and he said I will call you once it is done so I just left him too it in the garage. After he left I switched off the boiler and took the cover off just to have a look and found quite a few nuts left on the bottom of the inside off the boiler and a piece of rubber!

Can someone look at the pictures please. Are these just spare as he has used new ones or should they go somehwere?

The new seal comes with new lock nuts, he has just left his rubbish in the boiler. Why couldn't bg sort that?, they have a contract with vaillant to replace these duff seals from vanstock for contract customers.

British Gas told us it needs a new heat exchanger plus other parts, and it would be about 4 hours labour.

I suppose the answer to that last comment is that the Vaillant engineer is in a better position to know. When I was Alpha engineer, a corgi inspector labelled a boiler as Imediately dangerous and capped off the gas supply. I was sent by the customer to check it out. Found that the corgi inspector was suffering from inadequate training and reinstated it. It takes a certain amount of courage to overrule a corgi inspector on an Immediately Dangerous decision. Was I wrong about that one I would have been still picking up the soap in the communal showers at Hull prison instead of typing this.

BG personel cannot know as much about that boiler of yours as a Vaillant man.

All he has done wrong, is left your rubbish out of site. bad boy, but knowledgeable about his product.

As for you, make sure that casing seal you have disturbed in your positive pressure environment which you shouldn't be revealing is now back together and making a good seal, or you might find yourself reported to RIDDOR; pass the soap?

Thanks. Checked, and double checked earlier that the cover is on properly and sealed all the way round before switching it back on.

Just laziness on the engineers part if you ask me. Very bad working practice

He should have checked the HE with feeler gauges as well to see if it had been damaged (warped) due to the seal failing and re-checked the boiler with an FGA after the new seal was fitted.

I would have cleaned out the base of the boiler as well.

Did he put the sticker on somewhere with the date the new seal was fitted?

He should have done.

I cleaned up the base and removed the nuts before putting the cover back on.

Didnt see a sticker anywhere no.

Flue Gas Analyser.

Every seal kit comes with a sticker to attach to the boiler, which the engineer dates.

As the seals are supposed (officially) to be changed every 5 years, if they haven't been disturbed, how is an enginner supposed to know how long the seal has been in place with this dated sticker in place somewhere obvious?

He left the box the new seal came in behind. Just had a look and inside are two of the stickers you mentioned. Will fill one out and stick it on the boiler. Thanks.

you sound like a very demanding customer.
you probaly made the engineer very nervous when this happens the engineer sometimes needs to double/triple check his work to ensure your safety is not compromised,so he ran out of time to tidy up inside your boiler.
operatives need to be left alone to get on with their work not spyed upon.
ps the vaillant gurantee is now void as you have removed the boiler cover yes vaillant do look at these sites.
just vaccum the debris from inside.

so he ran out of time to tidy up inside your boiler.

Probably takes 20 seconds so I think it is more likely that he just doesn't care enough.

If an engineer left his nuts in a mess in my boiler I think that he'd be limping home....
