Value of building regulations beyond being a legal responsibility

My understanding is that getting the job done to building regs (whether officially or unofficially) - which is my intention / hope - would entail sufficient insulation for the porch to be open to the house. Hence the requirement for regs if there's no external door between porch and house.

yes , that's why I said get bldg. regs approval if you intend having the porch open to the house, so that you build the porch to a satisfactory standard to comply with bldg. regs and have the approval notice if you come to sell.
