Value of scrap copper

Scrap copper is fetching around £5 per kilo at the moment. Prices vary day by day though. A month ago I weighed in some scrap copper piping and got £4.80p per kilo and a few days later it would have fetched £4.95 a kilo. A week later, the price had dropped to £4.75 and a few days after that it would have fetched £5.05 a kilo. Although anywhere the upper and lower price is OK for what is essentially waste. ;) ;)

Yes I have a written estimate but no mention of removing the waste items, he has left everything else except the copper. I was too concerned about the water leak that happened into the room downstairs to mention the cylinder when he left.

Normally. I woould scoff at your concerns, as scrap is traditionally the fitters, but to take the good stuff and leave the carp is a bit cheeky, unless previously agreed.

I took a small cylinder along last week and was amazed to get £38 for it. I would have got a lot more if I had known to remove the 200 gms odd of foam from the outside and the scrappie hadn't deducted 2 kilos for it. Also if I hadn't poured out the litre or so of brown water that was slopping around inside it....

Oh well, I got a few beers out of it anyway.

He took the copper and left the crap? lol.
Did you make him a cuppa and give him your biccies as well?
Perhaps he left the crap because he didnt have a licence to carry waste?

I don't mind people keeping the copper, I'm sure they won't mind filling my van with diesel, paying my public liabilty, waste carriers license and Gas Safe Registration.....

Doesn't sound like he had a waste carriers license though... He left all the rubbish there!

Yeah but if they wont pay for its disposal so would i, a waste carriers licence doesn't mean i can dump it for free!

He didn't quote for rubbish removal, nor was it requested. It was expected that all the waste would be left behind.

I've had this happen to me too. I'm not tight but I specifically asked the old system to be left for me to deal with. It was taken and to me, that's theft.

Very gracious of you, but it IS your customers copper, not yours.

If you're in business I would imagine that you'd thought to cover your overheads yourself via the hourly rate you charge?

Maybe if you don't want to buy your own diesel for your own van, then walk or catch a bus?

Would you be happy to be charged by your customers for using their electricity and water or pay for the cups of tea that you consume?
