We hired a SWB transit a year or two back and found that the hire company had spec' d a blown plastic cover for the bulkhead. It meant that an 8x4 would still fit, but only diagonally.
My next door neighbour is a retired chippy now but used to have a car and an astravan. Every night he swapped his garaged car for the van so it lived indoors. One night he didn't and left the Astra on the drive- all his tools were nicked.
The maintenance guys at work seem to use vans that are like a transit cargo, but doors on both sides and back. They have a subfloor for long things or pull out drawer type cubby holes- they may be VW?
