Another update:

As a petrol-driver, I've been looking into the alternatives too. I am intrigued by "E85"; 85% ethanol, 15% petrol, results in higher bhp in cars that are designed to use it. 105-RON equivalent! Apparently the engines run cooler too. Not available in the UK, so far as I can ascertain.

Seems they picked the wrong fuels to run cars on all those years back!

diesel engines were never actually designed to run on diesel. they were designed to run on peanut oil/coaldust

Funnily enough it was mention on M&M programme last night in USA that cars running on peanut oil and kept the engine clean as well!

Hmm, where can I get peanut oil from?

did they have to mix it/heat it up or was it a direct replacement for diesel?

Just thought of a potential problem with this:

Unburnt peanut oil could possibly cause anaphylactic shock in those with a peanut allergy. It really doesn't take much for some people, my bro once ended up in hospital after he ate twiglets from the same bowl as someone who had been eating peanuts earlier  And I have been told that many people are even more sensitive than that.

Soya oil could cause a similar problem, as GM soya beans contain peanut DNA and set off peanut allergies too.

We need an oil with as few allergy sufferers/only causes mild reactions with allergy sufferers. Even a modern diesel chucks black s**tty clouds of unburnt matter out of the exhaust pipe when accelerating hard!

Helium-powered cars... imagine the fun if your tank leaked after an accident. How could the emergency services keep a straight face with Pinky and Perky voices?

(OK, so helium would be a rubbish fuel, and it is unsuitable for powering compressed-air cars due to it's rarity... but hey!)

There was some discussion about veggie oil on the radio last week. Apparently the duty is lower on recycled oil (ex chippy oil) than new oil and you fill in a monthly self assessment form to Customs and Excise.

yet another quick update: added 25L diesel 18L oil. still goin with no difference.

only minor problem i had was filin up. i have a pipe what a 90 deg bend to pour the oil into... and this lacks a cutout like fuel pumps. so i ended up overfilling it. any ideas on how to avoid this?

The duty is zero if you don't fill in any forms at all.
or you say you use less than you actually do

Put the Mazola in first....

i would but thats where the problem is... if i put the oil in first i might end up with too much oil/not enough diesel, added to the fact id would be runnin on summit like 90% oil goin to get the diesel

Put the Mazola in first whilst at the pumps?

Maybe not....

I assume your veehickle doesn't have a trip computer?
