Fitted a Viva Skylo bottom fill valve to our downstairs cistern and I found a piece of blue plastic in with the instructions but nowhere does it say what it is for. Any idea?

Its a pressure reducer. From memory, fits inside the threaded inlet shank.
If your WC is mains water fed, then unless the pressure is very low, fit it.
If your WC is tank fed, don't fit it.

Seen similar for fitting inside the inlet, at the bottom. Depends on existing low/high pressure to the fill valve.

It is supposed to fit inside inlet pipe ,think they say its for a quite fill, although other makes use them as a flow restrictor.

Thanks, shame the instructions dont mention this so I know before finishing the installation :( . My WC is mains water fed and high pressure so is it essential to fit this?

Viva have now replied to me. Apparently the little bit of blue plastic is a spare filter for use with "harsh" water, whatever that means, if required.

A bit late, admittedly.

Just bought a couple of these for a ridiculous £6 odd each - City Plumbing. Had no trouble installing it and adjusting the height

But regarding the blue restrictor that comes with it, I couldn't see how to fit it as there's a stainless steel wire mesh filter fitted insided the inlet tube and it didn't seem keen to come out - so I left it and didn't fit the restrictor. I have 3 bar mains pressure.
