VW Golf 1.6 CL will not gengage reverse gear easily!!

Hi All

I have a VW Golf 1.6 CL R Reg engine code AEE. When i try to enage reverse gear 1st thing in the morning during these very cold days it will not engage reverse gear easily until I have depressed the clutch a few times and then slowly forced it into the reverse gear! Does anyone think it is a Gearbox Hypoid Oil problem or is it something more sinister? Any help would be gratefully received. Going into reverse gear is fine once engine is slightly warm and has run for say 200 / 300 metres. Many thanks.

Does it crunch when you try to engage it? If so the clutch is not disengaging properly, if it doesn't the cause is probably the thick oil, try just slightly letting the clutch in before you engage the gear, if its moving slightly its more likely to drop in.
