If Tony can't help and you are in North London, email my address in my profile and I will give you the number of a Vaillant specialist to keep this beast humming. I tend to only service them personally.... a gas valve has never to my knowledge failed on one of mine to my knowledge..

Hi Bunnyman,

thank you for that input!

I know my limits and I would not fix something I do not comprehend fully.

You guys give me hope though. I'll see with my RGI tomorrow but I'd obviously would welcome any (paid!) help from London Vaillant specialists like Agile that's for sure.

Hi Dan,

thank you! But I live in south London (Tooting Broadway). Would you know anyone in my area?

Get an email off in the next 20 minutes and I'll send you his details.... I don't know how far he travels.

Tony is worth a shot as well though and his details are in his profile. A Sari has been known to tempt him to places hither to untravelled on tfl ;)

Haha it's good to know what can trick a north londoner into crossing the river!

I'll send you the email now.

Cheers for that

Al.

Well here are the latest news:

Local plumber came and after a little while identified as you all said that the switch box was at fault: mechanism behind red button not returning to its original position.
He put the pilot light back on and heating and hot water worked fine but he quickly realised that the expansion was leaking.

Also found out why the fuse blew: the circuitboard is shot ie a connection is "severed" and it started sparking.

So I guess I could spend the money to change the circuit board and have hot water for a little while longer until I can gather the money for a new system but that boiler has done its time (unless someone here tells me it might be worth changing the expansion vessel. Although it doesn't worth it)

that's an interesting solution Dan!

Wonder if I can mention that to the plumber I had today without him rolling his eyes!
that might be pushing it a bit much though!!

The contact you gave was very kind and willing to come tomorrow if the plumber today hadn't been able to sort it out today, so thank you very much for that.
