wall chasers - any good?

I don't know how good the Hilti ones are, but the Metabo one I use is definitely sufficient for domestic work, even in relatively hard plaster and brick. I wouldn't like to say how well it would do on rendered walls - I use my Makita angle grinder and diamond bit for that, which is fine, but that's only a single blade so it won't stick.

As a rule I go for known brand names with any power tools but I took a step onto the dark side and got a Silverline wall chaser from Toolbay Direct last year. I hadn't seen the mythical Aldi chaser at that point so for £70 it looked like a bargain compared to £300++ for a Makita or AEG, never mind the new mortgage to get a Hilti.

And it's a little gem. Cuts as quickly and cleanly as the other chasers I've seen around and abouts (and frankly looks less tricky than the Bosch) and though there is some dust, I also got a Hitachi QB35E vac and it cut down the mushroom cloud of dust to next to nothing. You'll need to empty the bag fairly regularly but it keeps everything much neater.

Absolutely brilliant combination and the two machines cost less than most other chasers do on their own. I would recommend : -

Silverline chaser is 240v only so if you are working on site you might need a 110 model instead, but if you're DIYing you'll only need 240v anyway.
