Walsall man sought.

Perhaps it is a family pet that has been treated with kindness and is not afraid of people.

Perhaps it has only met well-behaved dogs that are safe in a family home and are not a threat.
Can really not get my head around causing pain and presumably deriving pleasure from that...

Very true. The first walk I too my Aussie dog on in the UK we come across a cat walking with its owner and 2 other dogs.
My dog at this point had seen hardly any cats.
They walked upto each other and sniffed each other.

Out one night with the dog and come across a fox standing looking at us. Sitting about 1m away from this fox was a cat. They obviously were mates. Both scarpered together.

He is probably conditioning the dog to attack and kill, either for dog fighting or as a guard/fight dog for gang/drug activities.

My old cat had been an indoor cat before we got it. Never seen nowt. First dog he met was a puppy and our cat rolled on it's back wanting to play. From that moment on he had no fear of dogs, smaller dogs were frightened of him and they'd back off which would make the dog owners laugh.

The first time he saw a fox was unusually in the day time he took one look and chased after it. The fox legged it away. The fox gave up in the end walking near the house because the cat, every time he saw the fox, would chase it.

Ah, I miss my cat, he was a legend around here! Everyone knew him. When he died of heart failure, I had people stop by with flowers, a little girl, who lived a few streets away but would see the cat on her way home from school, made us a remembrance plaque, emails were sent informing others apparently, his death made a local church newsletter and had people stop me in the street to say how sorry they were when word got out.

Funny old world.

HA that he's banned from keeping animals for life, so he will have to give up his dog.
